	Leitrim Fancy, The Cork Hornpipe - Leo Rowsome and Frank O'Higgins Irish bagpipes and violin, REX 5001. This record had "HIGGINS - VIOLIN" which almost certainly refers to Dublin fiddler Frank O'Higgins, a popular artist both on radio and recordings. I believe Frank was also the fiddler on the marches and jigs already reissued on Topic LP/CD. The Leitrim Fancy comes from Michael Gallagher's 78, also to be heard on this site. 	Drops of Brandy, Barney Brannigan - Leo Rowsome Irish bagpipes solo, Decca W4681. The light speed tempo of Drops of Brandy makes sense when Leo goes into his charming version of Barney Brannigan, which is more complex than the book setting generally played, with its characteristic trio of dotted quarter notes at the opening of the third part. Leo fills out these notes melodically instead. He was recorded by Ciaran MacMathuna in the 60s, and played Barney B and the Drops of B with fiddler Larry Redican, resulting in less-than-perfect synchroni... 	Big Pat's, The Swallow's Tail - Leo Rowsome Irish bagpipes solo, Decca W4681. Big Pat was a flute playing police officer who worked with Francis O'Neill at the Deering Street Police Station in Chicago. O'Neill named this reel in his honor, remarking that Big Pat would swing his legs to keep time, unlike the more typical practice of stomping feet. Leo picked up many tunes from books like O'Neill's, devising piping settings, many of which are found in the book the Leo Rowsome Collection of Irish Music... 	The Ace And Deuce Of Pipering - Leo Rowsome Irish bagpipes solo, Decca F6254. One of the old set dances, which had an irregular structure and special steps for dancing. In the liner notes of one of the recent Topic CD reissues of Irish 78s Reg Hall remarked that dancers found the set dances on records made by Gaelic League sponsored musicians such as Rowsome, Liam Walsh, and Billy Andrews, unsatisfactory in terms of tempo or structure. 	Manchester, The Honeysuckle - Leo Rowsome Irish bagpipes solo, Decca F6254. The Manchester is an alternate name for Rickett's Hornpipe; also available on this site is the recording of Rickett's by piper Tom Ennis. Leo's version is faster, more free flowing perhaps, although both sound like good dancing music if the dancer were OK with the tempos (not the case these days). The Honeysuckle seems to have been a popular tune with old Dublin pipers such as Jim Brophy, whose playing of it was transcribed in a recent issue of the US publicatio...
